Safi's Story: I got married in April of 2008 in my home country of Pakistan. My wife and I moved to the UK on the 6th of July, 2008. On July 14th, she went to the police station and made up a story: rape allegations against me.

Police charged me with three counts of rape and put me in the Belmarsh prison. I was shocked at the way the police treated me. After being abused in prison, I was transferred to what they call the their Health Care Centre.

My wife also claimed that I physically abused her. She had some superficial injuries, such as bruises on her body, but these had nothing to do with me. I did not cause these injuries.

She also made up a long story about physical abuse that took place in Pakistan. Fortunately, there are so many contradictions and holes in her story, so I had sufficient evidence to prove that she is lying.

I just got bailed out of prison on November 9th, 2008. I am now staying with one of my close female friends in Wolverhampton. I have no access to the necessary funds to fight this case. I am emotionally weak. Every day, I consider committing suicide. I bang my head against the wall. Why this is happening to me?

I am a working professional. I am a certified accountant. I had a very reputable job in the city of London. Police arrested me from my office. Every one saw. My reputation has been ruined. I feel terrible.

I am waiting for my trial, which is scheduled for January 12th, 2008. Can anyone help me? What options of support are available to me?

My main question is: Why are men always guilty of rape unless they can prove their innocence?
